Stay #BreakfastReady with Dempster’s® English Muffins
In our busy family, we do a lot of eating on the run. I imagine you all can sympathise with this! Whether we’re grabbing breakfast on the way to work and school in the morning, or stuffing down a sandwich on the trip from daycare to karate class, we tend to eat in the van quite a bit. Dashboard dining, I believe is the term, and it requires the ability to quickly whip up hand-held meals that won’t make a huge mess, in the already filthy car.
Since we have a fairly long drive to school and work each morning, we don’t tend to have time to sit down for a proper breakfast. But this really important meal is not one we want to miss. Little Boo’s breakfast of choice is a toasted and buttered Dempster’s bagel (preferably cinnamon raisin) or English muffin. For me, I whip up a quick egg and cheese muffin on a Dempster’s white English muffin.
Don’t you love how all those holes just soak up the melting butter?
This is such a simple and nutritious meal to make, and takes a total of less than 5 minutes. Pop your English muffin in the toaster, and while it’s toasting, break an egg into some butter in a fry pan. If you want to get fancy, you can use a round form to shape the egg to the muffin, but I generally just use my spatula to fold over the edges as it cooks. Be sure to break your yolk with the edge of your spatula and allow the egg to cook fully, to avoid drippy messes. Butter your toasted muffin, toss on a slice of cheese, then add the fried egg. Cover with the other half of the muffin, grab a napkin, and you’re ready to run! Tasty protein and grains to go.
Don’t forget the coffee!
If you visit the Demspters.ca website you will find a recipe for a sausage and egg muffin that looks really yummy as well. This one uses Maple Leaf Fully Cooked Sausage Rounds, or Ready-Crisp Bacon, for an even bigger protein punch to keep your energy up and your belly full through the morning rush. Since these meats only need a little heating to be ready to serve, this is a super-quick solution for the carnivore in your family.
Demspter’s English Muffins are available in 3 varieties: Plain, 100% Whole Wheat and Cinnamon Raisin. You can find them across Ontario and Quebec in the bakery section at major grocers including Food Basics, Freshco, IGA, Metro, Price Chopper, Sobeys, Super C and Walmart.
