Nordica Smooth is available in three flavours – Lemon, Vanilla Bean, and Salted Caramel. Hello! Salted Caramel? I am in! The product comes in individual serving (110g) containers, so it’s easy to toss one in the lunch bag or grab on the go. Each container is just 110 calories, and packs a punch of 10g of protein! You’ll get the cottage cheese calcium benefit, with 15% of your daily recommended allowance as well. Of course these contain more sugar than regular cottage cheese, as part of the flavouring, but it’s still just at 5% of your daily, which is considered low.
This all sounds great, but how do they taste? Pretty darn good, actually.

The salted caramel is, not surprisingly, my fave. I enjoy it on its own, but think it would be great in a smoothie instead of yogourt. It’s sweet, but not too sweet, and very satisfying. As an experiment I tossed a vanilla bean container in the freezer overnight. It froze maybe a little too well, and took quite a while to defrost to the point I could stick a spoon in, but it tasted great and the texture was fine. My next idea – insert a popsicle stick through the foil covering before freezing. This should make a great frozen treat for the kids and I think it will be a hit next summer. Basically a healthier pudding pop. (Note – Gay Lea does not recommend freezing, but I’m a rebel.)

Unfortunately for those of you outside of our province, this is available in Ontario only, where you can find it at most major grocery stores, other than No Frills and Walmart. Oh! Good news – all Gay Lea products are gluten-, nut- and peanut-free.
